Today people talk about knowledge as power.
Unfortunately few people use this knowledge. People don't learn and people rely on individual sources to tell them what they want to know and look no further.
Although the reasons for entering the war may be faulty and it is true that Sadaam probably would not have attacked the US. Sadaam was a monster that harmed his people and stole from his country. People like to say that its just the media showing the cheering people and not showing reality. Reality is that Iraq is happy and better off now than it ever was. They are beginning to have a functioning democratic government and a society in which people may make their own choices. Most of Iraq is already beginning to experience better living conditions since the bulk of Iraq's resources are no longer being directed soley to Bagdad. Contrary to popular belief the images shown on the television are an accurate portrayal of what is happening in Iraq. Citizens of Bagdad even say that their hardships are worth being rid of Sadaam.
Few of the soldiers in Iraq actually feel that being in Iraq is wrong. People just don't like war so thus they feel compelled to protest it without understanding it. Even though Sadaam has committed atrocities as bad as Hitler and Stallin.
Another point people like to make is civilian casualties. People of course did not protest WW2 because it directly affected them as the US was in danger of invasion for the first time ever. But during WW2 the military used a method of bombing called carpet bombing. Carpet bombing is where you pick a target, fly over it and drop about a 1000 bombs and hope you hit it. Most of the bombs of course would miss but that was ok because the bombs would destroy the town, kill people, and cause their moral to drop drastically. People with broken spirits would then cease to support their government. This tactic was chosen by both sides instead of developing smart bomb technology. In comparison to anyother war, fewer civilians are being killed today by military bombings.
Also, pulling our troops out now will cause a lot more problems for the US and Iraq later down the road. As of right now Iraq has no established police or military force to enforce laws. Should the US pull out now there will be an opening for violence and hatred to go up to a level higher than that now. Militant groups can use it as an excuse to kill and attempt to gain power. There is no one to defend the politicians who are trying to develop a government that gives equal treatment to every group in Iraq.
Finally, I bring up the topic of Afghanistan. What happened to it? Why don't we hear anything about it? The truth is that Afghanistan is doing fantastic! They have a miltary force and a fully functioning democratic government. We just don't hear about them because a country doing great just isn't good news for the liberal media.
Please respond to this. Lets discuss it. I'm open to changing my mind when convinced by sound logic and reasoning that is gained through learning.
