Subject: Jan. 27 Peace March in D.C.: Maps, Logistics & More

Dear friend of United for Peace and Justice,

...Over the next few days, in massive numbers, people from every corner of the country will be making their way to Washington DC to deliver a very different, very clear message: We want all of the troops brought home now, and we want Congress to stand up to Bush and use its power to end the war!

United for Peace and Justice never predicts numbers for a mobilization like this. But based on everything we've seen and heard, we are anticipating a tremendous event. Every day, we're hearing from people who have never marched before, but who are coming to DC. Buses are coming from more than 30 states. People are organizing car pools, taking trains, and some are flying in. And it's predicted to be 45 degrees and sunny!

Follow the links below for up-to-the-minute details on this weekend's massive mobilization for peace:

Saturday's demonstration in D.C. will be echoed in every corner of the country. Solidarity events are planned in Los Angeles, the Bay Area, Seattle, Denver, and more than 60 other cities. C-SPAN, Reuters and Pacifica Radio will be broadcasting the rally live and there's a lot of other media interest.
For information on the rallies outside of Washington DC visit http://www.unitedforpeace.org/calendar.php?sortby=&caltype=50

On Monday, Jan. 29th, we will bring our message directly to the offices of Congress with a grassroots lobby day. We want to show Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid that we are bringing your voices with us. Please take a moment today to sign this petition demanding that Congress use its power to end the war in Iraq and to bring the troops home now(http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/organizationsORG/ufpj/petition.jsp?petition_KEY=447)

We will print out your signatures and bring them with us on Monday, so please forward the petition to everyone you know and encourage them to sign as well. But this petition campaign will not end on Monday. We will soon have a print version of the petition posted on our website, so you can download it, print it out and collect signatures in your community. Together, we will continue to pressure Congress until they bring the troops home.

With just a few days left before this important demonstration, we can still reach many, many more people and inspire them to join us in the streets. Here's what you can do to help:

* DOWNLOAD A LEAFLET (http://www.unitedforpeace.org/article.php?id=3437), make copies and distribute them in your neighborhood, and where you work or go to school;

* CALL into your local radio talk shows (http://www.congress.org/congressorg/dbq/media/)and let people know why you're going to Washington;

* SEND a copy of this message to every email address you have, and include a note that you're going to Washington and you hope everyone will join you;

* SEND the newly produced public service announcement to radio stations in your area and ask them to run it as often as possible (http://www.unitedforpeace.org/article.php?id=3495);

* ORGANIZE a phone bank to call everyone in your group, or just to call friends.

WE HOPE TO SEE YOU IN THE STREETS OF WASHINGTON! And we're sure this weekend will inspire and energize people in communities throughout the nation to keep this work going. The war in Iraq must end and it's the work we do that will make that happen.
