Thank you Dr Meyer for voicing so eloquently and succinctly what desperately needed to be said.
Your message struck a very personal chord within me. Very early in my life I knew I believed in God; the Source behind all sources, the Essence behind all existence, and I knew I believed in the teachings of Christ; but from the time I was about 10 years of age until fairly recently I refused to have anything to do with organized religion precisely because I encountered too much of the religious hypocrisy you point out with force and truth in your speech.
Thanks for reminding me that there is still a place in the church for those of us who actually attempt to put Christs teachings into action; that peace and justice is more important than narrow dogma; that Christian does not have to mean the "Christian Right".
