I still don't quite see how the people of Iraq are screwed. Whenever people hear about water or food or any problems they are generally hearing about Baghdad and not the provinces in Iraq. Most Iraqis believe that conditions in their country will only get better as the government begins to function and they begin to sell oil again. The US will begin to pull out once Iraq has a developed system of law enforcement and method of defense against rebellious groups. If the US pulls out early it would only make a situation similar to that of Columbia where there are so many leftist guerrilla groups that the government is unable to contain them and crime is rampant and social change is nearly unachievable since the government can't enforce anything.
Many Iraqis also believe that times are certainly better as they finally have freedom of religion. Sadaam was very much against it and suppressed it in many cases.
Lastly I would like to say that so what if our economy has dropped! Oh my gosh we can't go and buy those fancy Gap clothes like we wanted to! Our economy remains one of the strongest in existence. Considering there are families in countries like Thailand and Peru that exist on little more than $130 American dollars a year the US is looking pretty good.
