I don't agree with that but I haven't seen the film though. At least you didn't resort to that stupid argument about cow growth hormones and early puberty in children. (pure bs)
However, from a religious perspective I don't see livestock as something we have to apply humane standards to. As humans we are given a gift from God, the right to do with the earth as we please. Whether we choose to abuse that gift or not is our choice. On top of that, who is to decide what abuse really is?
In response to your stance on outer space, I say that discovering bacteria somewhere other than Earth is an incredible scientific discovery and accomplishment. If we spend millions and billions of dollars to send equipment to just find that bacteria we darn well better revere it! One cow vs. a multi-million dollar bacterium? I pick the bacteria. Saving a cow isn't doing much to advance people's understanding of the universe.
