Our Perspective on Change is What Matters Now...
The elections can be likened to a wedding; it has been planned for a so long that it felt like we learnt everything about the candidates during the time of our courting. After a long awaited period the wedding night finally arrived. The celebration took place, vows were exchanged, glasses were clinked and the toasts were made. NOW the marriage has begun. It is up to Obama to Love the (country)world enough to tell the Truth about all of the things he discovers…it is up to all of us to love the (country)/ world enough to listen to the Truth.
After the wedding night the real learning begins, the little things about each other are reveled. The most important thing to keep in mind is beliefs occur based on perspective… depending on the view…opinions can change when the view expands. It is time to ask yourself if you are willing to make the marriage work; it always takes time to let love grow and blossom into something spectacular. All relationships take effort by both parties involved.
As a young mother with school age kids, I was unhappy about some policy that the school had. From my perspective, I thought it was stupid and wanted it changed because it did not make any sense to me; so I joined the school council to see what I could do about it. I began to understand more about why things were the way they were and my beliefs changed from my original perspective. After attending for a year, I decided that I would run for the Executive. Our school had certain needs that could not be met at that level so I also joined the district council board. Once again when I began to look at the bigger picture, my perspective changed and therefore so did my beliefs. I was concerned about how decisions on a provincial level were affecting my local board; so as you can guess, I also joined the provincial council for school associations. From this perspective I was able to truly see how trivial my original concerns were. Four years later, I prepared myself to run for public trustee, with so many different meetings that I was the chair of, I figured I gained enough experience that I was ready to run for public office, I wanted to grow my perspective once again because I would then attend meetings with other provinces as well.
With the support of existing trustees and after having signs and cards made, I was ready to put my name on the ballet. It turned out the universe did not want me to run because I was over 2000 kilometers away in a snow storm on the top of a mountain on registration day. It was such a bad storm the helicopter could not fly up the mountain to bring me out in time to personally register my name for the election. The snow turned out to be an unanswered prayer.
Trivial things that consumed my time ended up to be so unimportant with a change of perspective. For example, building a parking lot at the original school that I represented, we never really had a parking problem… we had an ‘Ego’ problem. The issue truly was in the overall thinking that “my child is more important than anyone else.” Myself included with a school full of parents that wanted to drop their children off at the front door. Little did I understand that if people were to walk their kids to school, it would have eliminated all of the traffic congestion in front of the school! With 360 degrees of pathways leading to the school, there were plenty of options to make it safe for everyone to bring their children to school. However from the perspective that I originally had, I was only able to see tones of traffic, people parking in no stopping zones, no manners, swearing, cutting people off, parking on the crosswalks, driving through traffic signals, and near miss after near miss. The simplest solution of parents leaving 5 minutes earlier and parking a block or two away would allow everyone to walk their child to the doors of the school safely. No money needed to be spent if only people were more courteous and looked at the issue from the total perspective instead of from the ‘Ego’s View.’ (Not all of the 700 plus parents contributed to the problem but at least 80% did.) After seeing the needs of other schools and other people’s lack, I was truly ashamed that I was so selfish to think these parents had to have something that was truly unnecessary. Just imagine the good in the world the purposed $300,000.00 parking lot money could do. With experiences, my perspective changed from that of a child chasing a ball across the street to that of the parent standing on the driveway seeing the big picture and the car speeding towards the child. A different perspective changes beliefs. It is time to embrace the wise perspective of the ‘whole picture’ and let the limiting beliefs of the Ego go.
Being flexible in our understanding helps us to adjust and flow with the changes that are always occurring. Companies that upgrade products, offer diversity, and evolve with the times can remain in business. The same concept applies to a country. If a country always does what it has always done, it will lose significance on a world scale. Great change will occur…however, maybe not the way that everyone will want to accept it. Running a country and building peace on earth, is like putting together a puzzle; nothing can be built by force. Keeping in mind what the big picture is, each piece needs to be put in the correct spot or the puzzle will never be complete; it is time to join together and help each other put the pieces in place by listening to each other share their perspective. Perspective, patience, communication and understanding will create the perfect space to accomplish the necessary tasks in order to bring about world Peace. First things first however and that means the United States needs to take the advice of an airline stewardess and that is: put the oxygen on itself first before attempting to help anyone else.
It is important to listen now more than ever, many things have taken place over the years that we the people may not understand nor even be aware of. President Elect Barack Obama needs time to listen, study and learn all about the ‘fracture’ that he is being handed. He needs the worlds support now more than ever. In construction the saying measure twice cut once is quoted often, the new President needs some time to truly measure up the situation from his new perspective before construction begins…
Most Humbly, Namaste, Marcia www.eaupening.com
