Valuable Resources for Violence Prevention

In light of a new opportunity for peace education with the inauguration of President Obama we would like to donate free our internationally acclaimed, award winning peace-educating programs to help young people, and the adults who live or work with them, to understand and resolve conflict nonviolently.

The peace educating resources of Youth Peace Literacy have won widespread praise for the understanding and nonviolent resolution of conflict

• Selected by the International Association of Educators for World Peace for their Central American peace education project in Panama and El Salvador

• Published by Moscow's Library of Foreign Literature and Magistr Publications

• On permanent display at the International Museum of Peace and Solidarity in Samarkind, Uzbekistan, the Commonwealth of Independent States

• Awarded the Robert Burns Medal for literature by Austria's Albert Schweitzer Society,
for "outstanding merits in the field of peace-promotion"

• Tug of War... excels at impelling children to understand how conflict works within themselves. Educators for Social Responsibility

• "I realize Why Is Everybody Always Picking On Me? urgency for every child and adult . . . My daughter couldn't stop reading it!"
—Marina Dubrovskaya, Dept. of Sociology, Lenin Library, Moscow

• Fighting the Invisible Enemy and Tug of War recommended by the Elementary School Library Collection as "fine contributions to materials for children"; both books also chosen by the British Commonwealth Collection – A Selection of Books and Journals on Nonviolence and Social Change

"Why is Everybody Always Picking on Us?... is a wonderfully comprehensive manual for young people and adults alike on understanding our conditioning and the root of prejudice." American Pride Through Education

...To name only a few international commendations.

To: Whom It May Concern:
From: Dr. Terrence and Jean Webster-Doyle, Atrium Society – Youth Peace Literacy www.youthpeaceliteracy.org

Donating our internationally acclaimed, award winning peace resources In 1985 Laurance S. Rockefeller, through his Fund for the Enhancement of the Human Spirit, gave the Atrium Society – Youth Peace Literacy an initial donation to start producing our peace educating resources. He continued to give the Atrium Society – Youth Peace Literacy funds for the next 20 years so we could complete the full compliment of materials we now have. It was and still is the intent of the Atrium Society – Youth Peace Literacy to freely donate these resources to any and all who would benefit from their use. To this end we have positioned them on our web page under "Resources" for any one to down load. In order to do this they just have to contact us and we will give them the User Name and Password.

Resources based on initial insights of notable modern thinkers Like modern notables such as quantum physicist Dr. David Bohm, educational philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti and authors Aldous Huxley and George Orwell who have addressed the urgent and critical need to understand conditioned thinking that is at the root of human conflict our goal is to make these initial insights available in a context that is relevant – bullying – from the playground to the battlefield.

The credibility of the programs
Our programs have garnered an array of international acclaims and awards for their effectiveness in helping young people and the teachers who educate them to understand the three main levels of human conflict – primary: prevention, secondary: resolution, and tertiary: management – and to give them the necessary comprehensive skills to address conflict at all these essential stages of development.

What peace results we have achieved
We have been working for the past 25 years in developing these programs culminating recently in a daring project with children of war in Liberia with the Common Ground Society who has initiated a peace school project that educated these young people to the causes of the conflict they just went through. Due to the teaching of our Youth Peace Literacy programs we have seen extraordinarily encouraging results with these war torn children in helping them to address the underlying causes of conflict hence freeing them from the revengeful conditioned thinking they had been inculcated with having grown up in a fifteen year civil.

Our future plans for peace education
Our continued desire is to work with others to promote a full understanding of human conflict that can be understood within the relevant context of bullying because all ages can relate to it. Young people can most easily understand prejudicial conditioned thinking as manifested in bullying behavior if it is grounded in their real, daily experiences. From the concrete rather than the abstract, they can come to understand what it is, how if affects them, and how it impacts the world.

What specific training programs we can also freely offer We offer training programs and certification in order to assist people in successfully implementing them (please see below). For 2009 we have been granted the funding to also offer them free of charge, therefore there is no expense to any host organization.
http://www.atriumsoc.org/training.php

As stated above, our intent is to be able to freely donate our resources and training to address violence in human relationships.

These free donations are not contingent on whether or not one chooses to take the trainings. They are two separate things.

If you are interested please contact us by e-mail or call at 800-848-6021.

Sincerely, Dr. Terrence and Jean Webster-Doyle Valuable Resources for Violence Prevention
