Subject: Volunteer hosts needed

My name is Patty and I work with a non-profit program called Pacific Intercultural Exchange. We facilitate high school exchange programs for teens from around the world. Two of our programs, FLEX and YES, bring scholarship students from the former Soviet countries and from predominantly Arab countries in Africa and the Middle East. These students are awarded their scholarships over hundreds of other applicants. Once here, they will perform a minimum of 50 hours community service, though my group last year had a combined total of about 1500 hours! They will also offer presentations on their country to school and community groups and attend enhancement activities with other scholarship students.
Many of these students come from areas of the world that have seen or are currently seeing conflict. They have the chance to live in America for a year, see democracy in action, participate in volunteerism and explore diversity. Our hope is they will take what they learn and become agents of change in their country.

There is no typical host! Singles, empty nesters, retirees, families with or without children can welcome a student.
