This is taken from a casual email correspondence, un-edited. Take it for what you like. We are off to all of the grandparents' homes for holiday cheer. Also, I just spent last weekend with a group of high school aged kids at a Unitarian retreat in the mountains in NC. It was rather incredible. I don't know if you are familiar with Unitarianism, but it is a "religion" based on freedom of beliefs and respect for others. Our "fellowship" has a good mixture of Christians, Jews, Buddists, Muslims, Atheists as well as a few others. The main goal is understanding. Anyhow, these kids were awesome. The workshops they participated in were Tibetan Prayer Flag making, Origami Peace Doves, Meditation, and a few others. Watching them interact with each other was hugely awe inspiring. At "church" (in a large "treehouse" on top of a mountain) on Sunday two kids played the piano while everyone (about 150) sang Lennon's Imagine to start. Another kid played his guitar later and sang Zeppelin's Rain Song. I'm still a bit moved after having seen all that I saw. -Eric ps Rain Song:
It is the springtime of my lovin' The second season I am to know You are the sunlight in my growin' So little warmth I've felt before. It isn't hard to feel me glowin' I watched the fire that grew so low. It is the summer of my smiles Flee from me Keepers of the Gloom. Speak to me only with your eyes It is to you I give this tune. Ain't so hard to recognise oh-oh-oh These things are clear to all from time to time.
Hoooh. Ah~hoh~oh~oh. Talk, talk, talk, talk Hey! I felt the coldness of my winter I never thought it would ever go I cursed the gloom that set upon us,'pon us, 'pon us But I know that I love you so, ahhh-whoah But I know that I love you so oh.
These are the seasons of emotion And like the wind they rise and fall This is the wonder of devotion I see the torch we all must hold. This is the mystery of the quotient, quotient Ahh upon us all, upon us all a little rain must fall. Just a little rain ohh-yeah, Ah ooh~ooh-yeah~yeah~yeah!
