Rev. Jesse Jackson himself said that the Democratic party was not actively registering "millions" of black voters. (Many of them in the Northern Midwest where election drama was played out.) Democrats had every opportunity to get the votes they needed. Democracy worked, just not how we wanted it to.
Its because we're constantly looking for someone else to blame that we keep failing. We are constantly making excuses to explain what went wrong. That's why we need new attitudes. We think that because we're trying to do the right thing that we must not be doing anything wrong.
I'm not saying that Bush's policies are right. I'm saying that we need to understand the ideology that is different from ours so that we can find common ground on which to actually unite. And no, ideology is not so clear cut on both sides. You might want to think that, but Democrats get some things wrong and Republicans just happen to get more things wrong. But there are good things from both.
Our fighting and protesting will do little to help get respect. We have to show the country that we can be united with "everyone."
