Subject: A Letter and Poem |

Dear Mr. President,
As you can see, our world is falling apart, not only governmentally, but literally. I am sure you are aware of it, but I would like you to see my aspect. Although this is not the end, it is definitely not the beginning. Our environment is close to disaster, as is our economy. One by one, our civil liberties are slowly being taken away, and these are things that every single person deserves. It almost reminds me of the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798, which I’m sure your familiar with. Our democracy is fading, and soon enough it won’t be a democracy anymore.
I would like to end this letter with a quote that is very true to me, and I would appreciate it very much if you read my poem that I attached.
“The future's uncertain, and the end is always near” ~Jim Morrison
Thank you greatly, and I am hoping that even though I am only in 7th grade, I can make a difference.
Citizen of this asylum we call home, Kristin Jung (Age 12) (4/26/92) Please contact at: 32 Wyoming Avenue Lynbrook, NY, 11563 ______________________________________________________ Life Slip into a vast dreamland where it all fades and memories glisten.. the present and future are the same ,today means nothing.. tomorrow is to come..and yesterday is forgotten, and forevermore I will think of you and reflect on the forgotten, and now .the rules will be broken, because I am thinking of yesterday, thinking of you, of everyone in my life This really isn’t a dreamland, this is our life Forget the past Forget today We are the future We are the ones who will rule the world And our past will be gone For after a deep reflection of the long gone We realize that it was meant to be And we move on With a new theory a whole new philosophy And now we have the whole world in our hands At least this is what we think And we think it works, for we are the future, right? Now we forget that too, for we fall into the corporate way of life, the present Because moving on is a way of life We do not have a choice Oh, but we do If only we could find our power We will not let corporate geniuses take over We will not let the world fall into a bottomless pit For the world is ours, right? As we grow old we will realize what we have done And what a disaster we created, not only us, but the whole world We find that we did let the world fall But in our folly we did not see our wrong ships Believing the ones with “power” But we were wrong There is no greater power We all have a greater power We just don’t know how to use it And the power inside us is lost For if only we could find it, we could have saved ourselves Look at the world! Look at what we’ve created! Is this really what we wanted? I would hope not.. Is this really our fresh outlook, our new philosophy? If this is truly so, why didn’t we see this? Why didn’t we see this?? The world is falling to pieces and its all our fault! Our’s! No one else’s! There is no one to blame this time The world is ours, remember?? And when we realize what we have done, It will be to late We will watch our beloved earth fall to pieces, before our eyes We will plead and cry But there will be nothing we can do If only we would have realized what we have created, what we have done, when we were in the act But we were to intent on our causes and how it would affect us An overflowing of greed That we did not see what we had done And when there is no hope, nothing to do, and no one to blame The only thing we have left is to find ourselves, repay the earth for its gracious deed, and apologize
