But my question is how will the US leaving now fix anything?

The military leaves and no one is there to actually protect the elected officials.

Will the insurgents simply lay down their arms and start cooperating with the government?

Will the Iraqi people who are being terrorized welcome back the people who shot at the them as well as the Americans with open arms?

Will a war ravaged country be able to pull themselves together and build a fully functioning economy and restore the country's infrastructure without the support of a major western nation?

How many more lives will be ruined because the US made a mistake, gave up on fixing it, and then avoided it all together? If the soldiers leave now what will it really accomplish? That is the question I was asking. I don't deny that Iraq is in bad shape and that we've created a hell of a lot of problems, I just want to know how abandoning the Iraqi people benefits them?
