One week ago, Kelley Ogden of Houston, TX, read the Peace Not Poverty Declaration at the Beyond Iraq service in Riverside Church.

That night, Kelley, and the Declaration itself, represented you and the many thousands who contributed thoughts, hopes, and blessings to the Peace Not Poverty Write-In. Recognized as the "voice of the people," it was the culminating speech of the evening and it received a standing ovation by the more than 1,000 people in attendance.

The service also featured prominent leaders from some of our 60 organizational sponsors, which together represent 100 million people of conscience. And though C-SPAN failed to appear, Riverside Church staff recorded the event on video.

Following the service, the initial stage of the Break the Silence bus tour carried the message to communities in Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. Leaders on board were:

Ben Cohen of TrueMajority.org
Al Pennybacker of Clergy and Laity Network
Glenn Smith of DriveDemocracy.org
Rita Nakashima Brock Faith Voices for the Common Good
Osagyefo Uhuru Sekou of Clergy and Laity Concerned About Iraq

Rabbi Arthur Waskow met the bus in Philly, along with Sikh, Muslim, Hindi, Jewish, and Christian delegates from our sponsors, and members of the Zappala family of Gold Star Families for Peace. And we're just getting warmed up!

The next leg of the bus tour is scheduled to depart on May 1 from Kansas City. The Tour will visit 27 cities and arrive in Washington DC on May 15. The New York Times intends to cover our rising movement, but we cannot count on the media. We must deliver the cry for justice ourselves.

We need your help. The best contribution you could make would be to rally your friends and family to jump in your cars and meet up with the tour, but if you can't, here's a prioritized list of things you can do:

1. Tell your friends and relatives to meet the bus tour.
2. Hold meetings and events in your town to raise visibility.
3. Contribute to help us cover expenses(https://secure.groundspring.org/dn/index.php?aid=3791)
4. Raise your voice online and in your community.

If we rise together around this bus tour and its surrounding events, we will have taken the first major steps toward returning America to its moral roots of social justice, freedom, and democratic values. Together we will Build the Beloved Community.

Thank you for your commitment,

Rita and Brian
