Please join us this Thursday.
Hearing: 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m (EST.)
Rep. John Conyers will chair hearings about the Downing Street Minutes at the U.S. Capitol. Supporters should go to the DNC Wasserman Room, 430 S. Capitol St. SE.
Rally: 5:00 PM (EST)
Rep. Conyers, Ray McGovern, John Bonifaz, Cindy Sheehan, Medea Benjamin, Stephen Cleghorn, Rev. Lennox Yearwood, Tom Hayden and more will lead a rally in Lafayette Park , across from the White House. Rep. Conyers will hand-deliver a letter to the White House demanding answers regarding the Downing Street Minutes, along with the signatures of more than 540,000 Americans and more than 100 Members of the US House of Representatives.
In years to come, history will mark Thursday, June 16th as the day the Bush administration's illegal occupation of Iraq was finally and fully exposed, and the day when a rebirth of accountability came to pass. Be a part of history. If you are near DC, rally with us in Lafayette Park.
If you can't join us in DC, you can stay involved by tuning in to one of the following:

In addition to the Downing Street Minutes Hearing and Rally tomorrow, there will likely be a vote on an amendment sponsored by Rep. Pelosi on the Iraq war. This goes to show that the Democratic Party Leadership is beginning to take a role on ending the occupation. To review this amendment click here. (5)
House Leader Pelosi requested an amendment for consideration in the Rules Committee during debate of H.R. 2863, the FY 2006 Defense Appropriations bill. The amendment would require the President, within 30 days of enactment of the bill, to submit a report to Congress containing a "strategy for success" in Iraq and identifying the criteria that are to be used by the U.S. government to determine when it is appropriate to begin to bring U.S. forces home from Iraq.
Included within the report must be a description of the methods used to determine the capability of the Iraqi forces to provide security for Iraq and to assess Iraq's political stability.
The GOP-controlled Rules Committee refused to make the Pelosi amendment in order but Members of Congress will have the opportunity to vote against the previous question on the rule to the DOD Appropriations bill in order to allow consideration of the Pelosi amendment. The vote is tentatively set for tomorrow. Please write to your member of congress in support of this amendment. (6)
Because of your work the issue of the war will be very much debated in D.C. tomorrow. We have truth on our side.
Your work has moved mountains because of your lobbying on the Woolsey Amendment and the leadership of her taking it to the floor, Republicans are beginning to regret their vote in support of this war. Congressman John Duncan Jr (R-TN) said last night:
"I have come here tonight, first of all, to commend the gentleman from Texas (Mr. Paul) for these remarks and for his leadership role that he has taken in this regard. I also want to commend our colleague, the gentleman from North Carolina (Mr. Jones), because he feels so badly that he voted for this war and now he has seen what has happened. And certainly the most unfortunate thing has been the more than 1,700 young Americans who have been killed there now, and the some 12,000 who have been wounded, many of them severely wounded, maimed for life, in what was a totally unnecessary war."
