I have to continue to disagree with you Brandon.

As I mentioned in my initial comment, Casey Sheehan certainly joined the military on his own free will, but it is up to the President to responsibly use the forces over which he is Commander in Chief. Mrs Sheehan's point of view, and my own and that of many others, is that the President led Casey Sheehan, all the military, and the entire country, into a war on the basis of lies. Are military is there to protect us in the face of threats, and the Iraqi government and people posed us no threat - and the evidence was all there. So yes, I continue to blame the President and his administration for this. To use your smoking analogy, I'm sure Casey joined the military knowing the dangers that come from protecting ones country. But instead of getting a cigarette, he got an exploding cigar.

Interesting your comments on the hurricane. The one that struck me was about how the states have their national guard. In fact the states struck had less then half the strength of their national guard, as the majority are fighting Mr Bush's misguided war in Iraq. Were their guardsmen home where they should have been, perhaps the states would have had the resources they needed to aid themselves a bit more. And remember that the US is still a federal system, Brandon. That system is there to provide the resources that the local governments do not have the funds or the resources to provide for themselves, particularly in times of emergency.

Finally, I think if you read about the reality on the ground in Iraq you would find that the situation for women is deteriorating. Iraq was a secular state prior to the war, and women had full rights there. 38% of doctors in Iraq are women, and the majority of university students were women. All were free to dress as they chose.

This now is changing, and Islamic Sharia laws are making a comeback. Because of the deteriorated security situation women fear leaving their homes alone for fear of kidnapping or rape, and when they do they are increasingly doing so in traditional dress and with an escort so that they don't anger the religious forces. The stories are out there to be found easily enough, Brandon. It's fine to listen to the lines given to us by the government, but a little bit of outside reading puts to lie their spin.
