I see that you are going far out on a limb in your frustration about world events. Are you aware that our very own supposedly Christian nation has taken more lives in it's relatively young 200 and some odd# of years in countless global squirmishes, than any known official or unofficial Muslim country or 'force? Also the bloody history of the Roman Catholic Crusades, Inquisitions, and the imperialist global expansion of European 'Christian' nations over several centuries involved tremendous genocide. I am identified as a Christian myself, and I also consider myself a global citizen. I believe that ALL people need and deserve a Voice for Peace. How can we as a people come together here to create peace on this planet? How come no one mentions the ongoing since 1949-59 Chinese occupation, cultural decimation and genocide of the previously Sovereign Tibetan Nation? Or continual political wars and violence that is part and parcel of the web (oftentimes supported by our own corrupted government) of corruption that pervades much of Latin America? These are not simple issues, but complex and largely economic questions of propping up shaking structures of exploitation that go back to systems of colonial dominance and control, including the extraction of native labor, resources and other wealth for the benefit of a few. We are, in major respects the few who have reaped the bounty of much of the suffering of the so-called 'Third World'. They are third in order for us to be first, in other words, at their expense, literally! But as collaborators with our own system of un-sustainable practices worldwide, we will end up paying and our childrens' children will pay for the current expense of an unsustainable mindset that governs our actions. As these third world nations seek more just footing in the global community, there will be growing pains in the world. We will need to learn to respect the others with whom we hope to harmoniously coexist on this planet, not just taking their things because we can, and justifying it with some crazy logic that allows us to feel like heroes in the process. We must stop and learn how we can create a just and sustainable system of fair economic practices and otherwise support a healthy planet. Manufactured consent has produced these economically motivated conflicts. It's always been this way, power hungry folks grabbing for the biggest piece of the pie. Do you think that anyone is unclear that this war of ours in Iraq is about anything but the desire to control a huge resource of power, namely oil? Even though originally, those regions seemed unappealing deserts, they have turned out to be richly loaded with treasures which we now seek. Are we still on the global imperialist rampage to take whatever we want from native peoples who have lived for countless centuries in relative peace and tranquility, (not expanding in every direction and greedily swallowing up other territory and resources)? Check out your real history. The irony of your assertion is that this simple projection is a sad, yet common justification for all sorts of atrocities committed in our name abroad! Yikes! How to find peace in this swirl of hostilities?Do you honestly want peace or not? Rethinking the entire source of motivation for the seeming out of balance choices we are making, we need a model of unselfish cooperation, compassion, equality, and wholeness, not one based on division. I hope as a young person, college student, or whatever your place in this world, that you will avail yourself of the most objective and unbiased (I recognize the difficulty of this aim!), sources of historical and current truth that is available, so that you can make informed declarations that will be truly joining in as a Voice for Peace and not just another complaint, or expression of confused understanding and pain. Those voices might be valid, but do they help to promote peace? And are you an advocate of peace on this forum?
